My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Season 2 Ep. 8

The moment fans feared most has arrived—the tragic episode that defines the very origin of the hero "Eraser Head." This eighth episode brought viewers to tears by depicting the death of Oboro Shirakumo and the subsequent transformation of the boy left behind, Shota Aizawa.

The rampage of the villain Garvey, who turned the Tasomiya city district into a living hell, was brutal. Even veteran heroes crumbled before his "Stock" quirk, which allows him to absorb and release attacks. Arriving on the scene, Shirakumo willingly threw himself forward as a shield to protect the children of a local nursery. The shock was immeasurable when it was revealed that the voice Aizawa heard while defeating the villain was not a sign of hope, but a hallucination born from his desperate wish not to be left alone.

Leaving behind his cold, lifeless friend beneath the building rubble, Aizawa changed forever. Instead of a hero who stands in the spotlight, he chose the path of an Underground Hero, focused solely on capturing villains while claiming "one person is enough." It felt like a desperate vow to fill the void left by Shirakumo on his own terms.

Returning to the present after the painful flashback, Aizawa guards the streets of Naruhata with his characteristically indifferent expression. Seeing him enjoy a moment of peace through a cat at the cafe opened by the Takobe and Hotta brothers—victims of the Trigger incident—reminds us of the value of the "ordinary life" he protects despite his lonely path. In the playful banter of Hotta, who tells him his "reserved seat is next to the restroom," and Aizawa’s departing back as he promises to visit the cat again, we catch a glimpse of the "shared future" Shirakumo had so dearly wanted.

The sky was blue, but the heart of the one left beneath it remained soaked even after the rain had stopped. This episode provided a sorrowful answer to why the hero Shota Aizawa lives such a strict and solitary life.
